INQUISIÇÃO
Editorial Design, 2016

This book translates Nilton Almeida’s doctoral research into an editorial project that bridges historical investigation and contemporary design. Drawing on archival materials from Porto and Lisbon, it constructs a visual narrative shaped by the tensions of its context. Through a collaborative design approach and careful material choices, the publication articulates content, form, and tactility within a cohesive editorial language.

This book emerges from the doctoral research conducted by Nilton Almeida at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of NOVA University Lisbon. Developed within the framework of the course Advanced Studies in Editorial Design and Typography, part of the Master’s program in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, the project establishes a close dialogue between historical investigation and contemporary editorial practice.

Grounded in extensive visual research, the publication draws from archival materials preserved in the Porto Library Photo Archive and the Inquisition Archives at Torre do Tombo in Lisbon. These sources inform both the conceptual direction and the graphic language of the book, shaping a visual narrative that reflects the complexity of the historical context.

The work combines Almeida’s research and writing with a collaborative design approach by Felipe Goes (BR), Floduardo Almeida (PT), Luca Bontempi (IT), Matteo Capriotti (IT), and Pedro Ricardo (PT). The publication comprises 330 pages in a 20 × 29.2 cm format, printed in Porto, Portugal, on Munken Print White and Munken Pure 90 g papers, reinforcing its material and tactile qualities.
